Tournament Rules
All Games will be governed by FIBA rules unless otherwise stated below.
Standings tie breakers
The first tie-breaker is the head-to-head record. The second tie-breaker is the plus-minus statistic. The third tie-breaker is points against. The fourth tie-breaker is to flip a coin. Games are capped at a 20 point spread as to stop the need for running up the score.
Core game rules
Game Format • All games follow FIBA rules unless otherwise noted. • Games are 5-on-5, played on 10-foot baskets. • Games consist of four 8-minute quarters with a 5-minute halftime. Warm-Up & Timing Adjustments • Teams will receive a minimum 10-minute warm-up before games whenever possible. • To keep the tournament running on schedule, warm-ups may be shortened if necessary. • The tournament reserves the right to reduce breaks to 30 seconds between quarters and 2 minutes for halftime if needed to maintain the schedule. Overtime • Overtime periods are 2 minutes. • Each team is allowed one timeout in overtime, regardless of how many timeouts remained at the end of regulation. Double Overtime • If the game remains tied, double overtime will be sudden death. • Play begins with a new jump ball. • No timeouts are permitted during double overtime.
Defense and sportsmanship
Defensive Rules U12 Division • Zone defense is not permitted. • Double teaming away from the ball is not permitted. • Active double teaming of the ball is permitted anywhere on the court. • Defenders guarding the ball, and defenders on the strong side, must closely guard their player. • Defenders who are two passes away may provide help-side defense, but they must recover quickly when the ball is moved to their side or directly to their player. U13 Division • Any defensive scheme is permitted. Both Divisions • When a team leads by more than 20 points, that team must play half-court defense.
Ball Sizes
U12 Division • Games use a 27.5-inch basketball (Size 5). U13 Division • Games use a 28.5-inch basketball (Size 6).
Screens
All types of screens are allowed for both divisions.
